Nature adventures for kids ages two through six years old.  Join us and watch your little adventurer be enthralled by the wonders of nature.

What We Do

We provide hands-on nature adventures where young children and their grown-ups explore basic ecology ideas while connecting with nature.

Feeling the soft bark of a redwood tree, watching birds feed in the mud at the bay, examining the different shapes and textures of leaves, and seeing a banana slug for the first time are some of the simple adventures that are important for young children to experience.

Where We Go

We have carefully selected accessible nature sites in San Francisco.  Sites and themes change with the seasons.

How We Do It

In a beautiful natural setting, our program begins with a circle time where we introduce the ecology theme.  We engage the children through imaginative play, art, song, and up close examination of the natural world.  These activities work together in an age appropriate way to reinforce the nature theme of the day.

For example, in our Duck Discovery Program, the children will move like a duck, learn the important features of a duck, and become scientists and run an experiment with feathers and water droppers to answer the question, "Are duck feathers waterproof?".  Next we will head out with our nature detective kits in hand to explore.  We come back together on the mat to share what we have seen and learned and finish up with an art activity.

If a child is to keep alive his inborn sense of wonder, he needs the companionship of at least one adult who can share it, rediscovering with him the joy, excitement and mystery of the world we live in.
— Rachel Louise Carson

If we want children to flourish, to become truly empowered, then let us allow them to love the earth before we ask them to save it. Perhaps this is what Thoreau had in mind when he said, “the more slowly trees grow at first, the sounder they are at the core, and I think the same is true of human beings.
